I’m Semay, a visual communicator specializing in science and medicine. Some of my greatest passions are art, science, and technology. So I’m thrilled to be in a field that combines all three. I believe that creative visualization provides a rare power to engage learners, simplify complexity, and inspire research. My focus is always on the audience, and I employ a variety of media to communicate the content clearly and efficiently. Outside of work, I enjoy pottery, traveling, and good food.
I graduated in 2012 from the graduate program in Biomedical Visualization at the University of Illinois at Chicago, one of only four accredited medical illustration programs in North America. Prior to this, I completed a one-year intensive drawing program at the Florence Academy of Art and completed coursework in human figure drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Vitruvian School of Art in Chicago. For my undergraduate studies, I attended Wheaton College, where I studied ceramic sculpture and biology.
